As usual I invite all comments, corrections and suggestions. Hopefully, many errors (most of which were errors of omission) have been corrected without introducing many more. This October version of the post is a partial rewrite of the original version published July 3, 2022, and updated August 7. Furthermore, the S92 is not currently used to host my home automation system because of an unexpected and perhaps arcane problem with a component of the system, which will be exposed at the end. Let me be clear, this is a claim about using the S92 as a server, not as a desktop. Clever people have solved my problem and the TV box has proven to be a rather good "Linux appliance" that I would consider similar to a 2-gigabyte Raspberry Pi 4, if not better in some regards. Almost three years after, in July of 2022, I returned to this project because I wanted to upgrade my home automation system which was running on a Raspberry Pi 3B. The result was not entirely satisfactory, because Wi-Fi would not work. In December of 2019, I installed Armbian 19.11.3 with Linux kernel version 5.3 on an Alfawise S92 TV box which runs on an 8-core Amlogic S912 microcontroller.
